Dear Louisville Auto Glass,
I am very confused. About a month ago I noticed some small chips and a crack on my windshield. When I went to a local auto glass shop they told me that my damage was too severe just to repair. They seemed fairly knowledgeable about what was going on and there were other customers there so I trusted what they said. They told me that I needed to have my entire windshield replaced. I figured that they would know more than I did so I said that they could go ahead and replace it. I picked my car up the next day and paid the balance and drove home. Everything seemed to be fine until one day it started to rain. As I was driving I noticed that my dashboard was a little wet. I could not figure out where this water was coming from. Finally I noticed that it was actually coming into my car from the edges of my windshield. Is this even possible? How would this happen? Please help me figure out what is going on with my windshield.
Dear Wet Driver,
Sorry to say it, but you should have done some more research on this auto glass shop you went to. They obviously were not as trustworthy as you thought. These so called professional auto glass installers probably did not have the correct training to install an entirely new windshield. On top of that, it seems like you only had some minor damage on your windshield. Any other certified auto glass shop probably would have been able to repair the few chips and cracks without a problem. Of course, we do not know the actual extent of the damage, but you probably did not need to get your windshield replaced.
Now, let us talk about where this water is coming from. The reason there is water dripping inside of your car is because this auto glass shop did not install your new windshield correctly. Without looking at the windshield, I can only guess that they did not seal it as it should be. The seal is the most important part when getting your auto glass replaced. With the seal not sticking, your windshield will leak and it will not protect you in the case of a car accident. We usually recommend that unless you absolutely have to get a new windshield, you should stay clear of it. You will never have as good of a seal as you will with the original one.
In order to fix you problem, we suggest doing a little research on an auto glass shop. Once you find one that seems certified, you should take your car in for corrective services. They may be able to just fix the seal, but you may have to have them install a brand new piece of glass as well. Next time you will know to do your research otherwise you will end up spending way more than you need to.
